The suburban home located on a half acre of open property required extensive border plantings to define the interior experiences. Over the years with maturity this design concept has been achieved allowing the house to be in a setting of its own. Large stone terraces are an extension of the rear living spaces with a central water feature that incorporates both sound and visual excitement. Mixed perennial gardens adjacent to the terrace and custom fountain are defined by clean lines of boxwood. Due to the positioning of the new Honeylocust and existing Elm tree on site, the gardens are planted with a variety of sun and shade tolerant perennials. The borders are extremely simplified with massing of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs, perennials and groundcovers. The narrowness of the property dictated the strong linear lawn lines with a contrasting naturalistic yet refined planting palette. |
